Garfield is a decidedly funnier and more confident Spider-Man than his predecessor Tobey Maguire, though. The multiple villain issue isn't new, but the plot is a clunky mess between the Oscorp conspiracy the senior Parkers were part of, the shallow hatred of Electro (who's more of a needy introvert with new powers than a maniacal evil genius), and the whole sick Harry subplots. There are a few scenes between Peter and these supportive, loving women that are so evocative and touching that viewers may even get teary eyed.īut audiences watching The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for action, adventure, and intrigue may be less impressed. Peter just wants to learn the truth about his parents and be with Gwen, but there are too many complications, threats, and people to protect. On top of his emotional turmoil, Peter also has to deal with old friend Harry Osborn ( Dane DeHaan), who's returned to Manhattan to inherit Oscorp, as well as super villain Electro ( Jamie Foxx), who's powered by electricity and wants to destroy Spider-Man. So Peter uncharacteristically (for this Spidey) finds himself brooding about his relationship with Gwen and wondering about the circumstances surrounding his father's death, while living with his stressed and widowed Aunt May ( Sally Field). He can't stop imagining Gwen's dead dad, pleading with him not to involve Gwen in his dangerous superhero endeavors. As Spider-Man, Peter is off saving New Yorkers and nearly misses receiving his diploma. Then we fast forward to the day of Peter ( Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacy's ( Emma Stone) graduation from high school. The only big flaw is Jamie Foxx getting the spotlight just because Django, the character is lost in the movie, half-way between fun villain and real threat, shame because he is the main villain. But What can I say, I was expecting to see the real (mental image, again) Spider-Man on screen, the costume is really (a lot of emphasis here) beautiful, Andrew Garfield really is in the character, Emma Stone makes an active love interest, Dane DeHaan makes a 'realistic' Green Goblin and Paul Giamatti goes a over-the-top, more related to an usual Spider-Man Villain. But the main complain is about the script, but understanding as a comic adaptation, it makes sense, the several sub-plots going on between each fight,the preface and Peter Parker/Spider-Man parallels objectives, it makes just like a regular comic (weekly or monthly) and less like a regular movie. On the other hand those who love comic spidey, loved, for all the stupid puns, the charisma and the of course the action. Those who love the soup opera aspects of Peter Park, hated, they missed the character grow, the motives of the villains (arguable) and complained for having too many story lines.

This film is getting too much hate by some people and too much love by others (including me), and it seems to be only based on the mental image each group has of spider-man and movie scripts in general.
